ThermaCELL Review and Giveaway

Outside with the boys in the backyard can become a not so fun experience. I’ve become a great mosquito killer, but I rather not be hovering over my boys to clap at bugs. So when I got asked to review ThermaCELL lantern I knew I hopefully found my answer.

ThermaCELL makes LED Patio and Outdoor Lanterns equipped with the most effective, environmentally-safe, odor-free Mosquito Repellent on the market. ThermaCELL products create a bug free zone with an all natural extract, protecting you, kids, guests, food and pets all without spraying chemicals on your skin. The lantern does not smell, is not harmful to humans, animals, insects, or the environment, keeping your deck or campsite light-up and skin bite free.

It was very easy to put together. Mainly just putting in the batteries, the cartridge at the top and the little butane tank inside. All in all it took me about 5 minutes than I was in business. I took a picture of the top so you can see how it looks.

I just want to point out that there are 2 types of lanterns that you can purchase. They are the Patio Lantern and the Outdoor Lantern. The main difference, other than the design, is that the Outdoor Lantern produces 2 times more illumination.

So how do these lanterns work? They run on a single butane cartridge, which heats a mat releasing allethrin. Allethrin is a synthetic copy of a natural insecticide found in chrysanthemum flowers. This mat creates a 15 x 15 foot comfort zone around the lantern. Each repellant mat lasts up to 4 hours and each butane cartridge lasts for 12 hours.

I found it’s the perfect solution for our backyard. I’m going to have to buy more to cover the whole area but it’s great for not for the main area we play in! The light is great too for Dusk. My kids are young so we aren’t out when it’s pitch black so I did not get to test that aspect of the lantern.
