Landon’s Speech Update

4 Flares 4 Flares ×

Landon has been going to speech therapy now for just a little over a month. And I’ve seen progress. You can’t have a conversation with him still but we are getting some more sounds out of him.

For instance he now has a word for Yes. Well he uses it actually for a lot of things. It’s Ba. But at least when you say, say yes, he says that instead of just shaking his head up and down. Though it hasn’t clicked yet to just say Ba.. we have to prompt it. But hey it’s something!

Now if he wants something more. He has to go mmmmmmm for more. That has sometimes clicked. Like when I’m getting breakfast, he loves having 5 small pieces of sausage. So I’ll put one down and ask him if he wants more. He usually says ba first, which is smart! It is a yes. But I get him to say mmmmm for more. Then he keeps doing it without me prompting him till we get to 5.

Ooooo is for Open. That one is newer and it’s good.

Eeeee he can do too. See he didn’t do any of these sounds before. So it is progress and I am thrilled!

Landon

The speech therapist says he’s a unique case. Just super delayed, there isn’t anything that she can see that would have caused this delay. He’s not grasping for words. He’s intimidating for her well. And when I go home and work with the stuff she was just working with him, he does it better and easier for her the next time. She also says when he explodes with his speech he’s going to explode in a big way!

He loves going to school! Runs in there without me going in. I think it’s mainly because they play with trains a lot in there, she even bought him a small Thomas Train for Christmas. Which I thought was super sweet.

I just wanted to share with you all how speech therapy was going! Hopefully I will have more to share in another month or 2.

  1. Sometimes it takes a while. I remember people used to ask why I wasn’t taking AJ to a speech therapist cause he didn’t really talk. But he understood everything and could express what he wanted. Plus the doctor never said he needed too. Actually said he was above the curve with words. He just wanted to do not talk. Now you can’t get him to shut up lol. I’m glad he’s talking more. It’s a very good sign!

    • Yeah Landon doesn’t have words so he’s not above the curve. But understands you totally and gets his point across. The therapist was amazed that he could tell a story without even saying a word. I can’t wait for him to start talking! :)

  2. That’s great progress. I’m sure in no time at all he’ll be gabbing your ear off.

thats good news! I have a grandson who is 4 an still doesnt have his words right,Im trying to get his parents to consider therapy for him,,I really beiieve it will help

    • Oh yes it should help! And if it’s severe enough it will be free through the school district! That’s where we are going through. I know in NY you have to be 2 away from normal… and Landon is 3. Otherwise they wouldn’t take him on. But I’m sure each state is different!

  4. That’s wonderful and exciting progress! Go Landon!
