Holiday Gift Guide: Roku HD Player – Review & Giveaway

The Roku is a gift that anyone you know would love love to own! It’s a new HD player on the market! So what is it exactly? Well it’s a little box that allows you to instantly stream tons of entertainment on your TV. Watch movies and TV shows from Netflix, Hulu Plus or Amazon VOD, listen to music on Pandora, catch the latest ballgame, and more — it’s all available whenever you want it.

This little box has got to me one of my favorite things on my Holiday Gift Guide. I love how it doesn’t take up much room on our small entertainment center and that it does so much more with our tv. It was so super easy to set it up! Some electronics take forever, but less than 5 minutes and it’s up and running!

Now I did not have Netflix before I got the Roku. I could have streamed it through the Wii, but I never signed up. But I wanted too when I got the Roku. I am watching so many movies now, and it’s especially nice when I’m up in the middle of the night with Landon. Instead of watching infomercials I’m watching documentaries. Also it’s great with Hunter, there are so many kids movies and shows that he can watch. He asks for the Roku channel now. If he wants to watch Dora or Diego he can do that now no matter what time it is.

Another great feature my husband and I are getting a ton of use out of is the Pandora Radio channel. He loves listening to it while grading papers, and I love rocking out to it while I’m cleaning. I think it’s actually getting me to clean more. I did use Amazon VOD to watch a video since I had $4 credit on there I got from a friend. It was super easy and nice quality.

What I need to do is show my mom some pictures of the kids that I have up on my Facebook page. Yes I can view pictures streamed through the Roku on my tv. There are several other programs like Flickr and Vimeo and Smug mug among others that are free to use with your Roku. My mom doesn’t use a computer and it would be easier for her to see on the tv than straining to look on the computer.

Basically I love the Roku! I am so happy I have one. I think it’s a must have gift for anyone! I may get more for the other people in my life. And if we ever get more tvs in the house than they are going to get a Roku as well. (Yes we are a 1 tv house.)
