Getting Child to Ride The School Bus. Help me!

5 Flares 5 Flares ×

Kids at School BusSo school is about 30 days away, yes where we live they are starting September 10th. We have a meet the teacher and see the school on the 7th. They will also get a chance to ride the school bus for a little bit. Hunter does not want to even try to ride the school bus. But I really want him too. Because in Feburary when baby #3 comes, I’m not really going to want to take 2 little kids to Hunter’s school just to pick him up. It just seems like too much for right after I give birth. Though maybe my MIL can take him to and from school. I think it’s just the experience, I rode the school bus. Though if the bus ride is going to be 45 to an hour long, I don’t know how much I like that! So I guess go with the flow?

But do any of you have any tips to make kids excited to ride the school bus? Maybe I can try some!

Also don’t forget AT&T is still offering some great back to school giveaways! This week they are giving away a Samsung Galaxy II S. These phones look amazing and I held some for people during BlogHer to take photos. Will be perfect for the mother or teen out there!

  1. I went through this in preschool with Gavyn and only had to do this because we had only 1 car at the time and hubby was working. Gavyn was really nervous (me more!) We read a lot of school bus books daily! I think one we loved was I’m Your Bus can’t remember the others as it was a long time ago. Try that!

  2. There is an episode of Caillou that might help, and I recommend the book Junie B. Jones and the Stupid Smelly Bus. Good luck!

  3. If you have city buses maybe try taking him for a ride to show him what it is like.

  4. I know my nearly 4 year old is dying to start school! But with my first son he rode a small bus to preschool and parents volunteered as monitors to ride along. But for the most part kids are nervous at first but end up LOVING it :)

  5. Awww no tips here, my daughter couldn’t wait to get on the bus. Is there anything in particular that’s scaring him?

  6. I LOVE that they get to test out the bus!! I would have him try it. And then, if he doesn’t want to ride it at the beginning of school, he doesn’t have to, but at least he’ll know what it’s like.

  7. I’m not at this stage yet, but I’m going to check out that Caillou book too.

  8. I am having the same issue right now with my son. First day of primary and he went on the bus just fine, second day same thing. 3rd and 4th days i have had to drive him. He just refuses to get on the bus and at school he refuses to go into his class room. Its a rip him off mommy and run thing these past 2 mornings :( I have contacted the vice principal and am awaiting a call from his teacher but she says hes fine as soon as he starts his routine, its just getting him there thats so tough :(

    • Yikes I hope things get easier! Today was the first day of school and he got on the bus fine.. I’m sure he’ll come home fine, we’ll see. I just hope I don’t have problems down the line like you are having. I hope it passes soon!
