I was tasked by Prang to see if their art products are better then their competitors. They sent me 4 of their items as well as 4 of their competitors to match their stuff. The things I got to try out were Colored Markers, Pencils, Colored Pencils and Watercolor paint. Because when we send our children to school we want them to have the best that they can have.
The kids were my challenge contestants between Prang and another brand of the same item. I let them color and paint side by side so that we could see the difference between the brands.
First up was the water colors.
Prang markers have eight popular colors in bullet tip to make sure you get your ideas noticed. Special ink formula doesn’t dry out – even if the cap is left off for 24 hours and featuring our new ventilated safety cap.
The Prang Colored Markers did seem to be more vibrant. Look at the yellow between the two drawings. It pops more with Landon and the Prang then Hunter’s does. The colors just seemed more solid and visible.
Next we worked on comparing the water colors. Prang Semi-Moist Washable Watercolors feature the tuned palette of brilliant colors and intense pigments that have made Prang the watercolors most preferred by teachers nationwide. These washable watercolors easily wash off clothes and skin with soap and water.
By the way… painting with kids is a ton of fun! They got so anal though about the water being clear so I was going to and from the faucet a ton of times haha.
Hunter on the left was using Crayola and Landon was using Prang. Here are their finished paintings.
Personally I felt that the Crayola was much more bright, which may be more fun for kids. The Prang though was much better quality paint and the colors to me seemed more natural.
Now we’ll do the colored pencils. The boys didn’t want to use them but I tested them out. I do love that the Prang colored pencils are large and in a triangular shape. There is less coloring involved cause it’s larger, which I think my boys would like. They don’t seem to enjoy coloring but if they can do it quicker that’s a perk. Plus I love that the pack includes silver and gold and it’s own sharpener.
Last up is your regular No 2 pencils. It’s Ticonderoga against Wexford. I also did this one and found the Ticonderoga was just smoother to write with and I love how they came per-sharpened.
Next school year I will be buying all Prang products. They seem of much higher quality and that’s what I want for my kids. For now we are keeping these products for when they are at home working on their homework.
Disclosure: I received a package of everything that is included in this post to run tests with. All opinions are my own and no other compensated was provided.
